The PPA is an inter-governmental agency and member of the Council of Regional Organizations in the Pacific (CROP). The PPA conference is the largest energy conference in the region, focusing on all aspects of electricity in the Pacific Islands. The PPA's objective is to improve the quality of power in the region through a cooperative effort among the utilities, private sector and regional aid donors. This year's conference will be held at the Sheraton Aggie Greys Hotel in Apia, Samoa, from 31 July – 4 August 2017.

The Pacific countries lack or have limited indigenous energy resources while the high cost of imported fossil fuels means that Pacific Islands require an increased focus on energy efficiency and alternative sources of energy.
