The projects require providing specific quantum of enrollment and identification services for three Public sector organizations in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan & Bihar -- namely Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), ITI Ltd. and Electronics Corporation of India. The Govt. of India has tasked the Consortium of these three Public Sector Undertakings with the Socio Economic and Caste Census across the entire country of more than a billion people.
This SECC project is a key initiative of the Govt. of India, with the Ministry of Rural Development, Ministry of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation and the Office of Registrar General, India (ORGI) working in a cohesive manner. SECC project involves a study of socio economic status of rural and urban households in India, while ranking households based on a wide variety of predefined parameters. Amongst other things, the study helps identify households living below the poverty line in India that would get various entitlements, besides allowing the Government to decide on its benefits allocation strategy.
