Redline Network a Faster More Cost-effective Solution than Satellite

TORONTO, Oct 4, 2016 /CNW/ - Redline Communications (www.rdlcom.com) Group Inc. (TSX: RDL), a leading provider of wide-area wireless networks for the most challenging applications and locations, today announced that it has been selected to deliver high-speed connectivity for off-shore oil and gas platforms, drilling rigs and vessels in Asia.  The Redline solution is a replacement for a lower bandwidth system that was largely based on satellite communications. Redline's solution brings faster network speeds, the ability to support new network services, and lower operating costs.

The customer, one of the world's 10 largest oil companies, recognized that a private terrestrial wireless network could be more cost effective than a satellite-based solution and selected Redline after extended trials demonstrated that the Redline system could operate in the harsh environment associated with off-shore oil and gas operations.  The Redline network allows moving vessels to communicate with each other and with platforms located up to 18 miles (30 km) away.  Employees in all locations equipped with the Redline network now enjoy faster access to the Internet and to corporate systems, as well as VOIP (voice over IP) and video conferencing services.  Machine-to-machine communications have also been enhanced and will become more real-time with the Redline network. In all cases these enhanced services are being delivered at a lower cost than with the previous satellite-based network.

"With high speed communications becoming an increasingly critical part of an oil and gas operation, the Redline solution has demonstrated that it can deliver higher speeds, enhanced services and applications, and reduced operating costs", stated Jeff Gould, Redline's senior vice president of sales and marketing. "We've been working with this customer in other locations, and our track record of delivering and supporting rugged and reliable networks that work in some of the most challenging environments on the planet was instrumental in realizing this success."

Redline, an ISNetworld™ member company, couples powerful and reliable wireless technology with a deep knowledge of oil and gas to deliver a single secure and reliable network infrastructure that is powerful enough to simultaneously accommodate the distances, capacity and the many application types required for oil and gas operations. The Redline RDL-3000 XP network for this customer includes 60 RDL-3000 Ellipse base stations, 12 RAS-X roaming terminals that provide 360-degree communication coverage on moving vessels at up to 10 Mbps, 43 fixed-wireless Connect terminals providing up to 100 Mbps service, and a network management system. A certified Redline partner was instrumental in facilitating the logistics and will complete the installation of the network, which is expected to start before the end of 2016.
