REX American Resources Mourns the Passing of Esteemed Board Member Lawrence Tomchin

DAYTON, Ohio -- 

REX American Resources Corporation (NYSE: REX), today announced with great sadness the passing of its Board Member, Lawrence (Larry) Tomchin who previously served for fourteen years as the Company’s President and Chief Operating Officer. Mr. Tomchin, 90, passed away on April 29, 2018. The thoughts of REX’s board, management and employees are with Larry’s family, friends and business colleagues at this difficult time.

Stuart Rose, Chairman of REX American Resources, commented, “Larry was a valuable member of our senior leadership team. He was instrumental in taking REX public in 1984 and played important roles as we built the Company’s national success in the retail industry. His leadership and vision played a key role in our Company’s history as he helped transition REX to alternative energy businesses.

“Larry’s integrity, commitment and unwavering focus on doing the right thing will always be remembered and reflect the guiding themes by which our company continues to operate today. It has truly been an honor having known and worked with him. He will be sorely missed.”

Mr. Tomchin retired as President and Chief Operating Officer of REX American Resources in 2004, a position he held since 1990. From 1984 to 1990, Mr. Tomchin served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. Mr. Tomchin began his career at REX in 1957 and served on the Company’s Board of Directors since 1984.

A service for Larry Tomchin will be held at 11:00 a.m. ET on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at Temple Israel, 130 Riverside Drive, Dayton, Ohio, with burial to follow at Riverview Cemetery, Oakwood, Ohio.
