RESTON, Va. --

Nazzic Keene, CEO of Science Applications International Corp. (NYSE: SAIC), was honored by the March of Dimes, the nation’s leader in the fight for the health of all moms and babies, with the Corporate Heroine Award. Keene was honored for her commitment to helping those in need and for leveraging her platform as CEO of a $6.5 billion company to be a role model and instill a spirit of giving back.

The March of Dimes Heroines of Washington Awards Gala is one of Washington’s most esteemed events, recognizing and honoring women in the Washington, D.C. metro area for their dedication to community service. The awards honor women in categories including healthcare, real estate, professional services, technology, public sector, rising heroine, and lifetime achievement.

Keene was chosen for giving back to her community through feats of volunteerism that go above and beyond expectations. Keene’s dedication to causes — including volunteering her own time and resources to organizations whose missions resonate with her, and inspiring a spirit of giving through SAIC and the organizations she leads — have solidified her placement as a finalist.

  • Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS): Keene has been a consistent supporter of LLS for more than 20 years, where she has served as a personal champion and sponsor in several chapters across the nation and as an executive committee member. Since 2013 she has organized thousands of SAIC employees for the annual “Light the Night” walk for LLS and SAIC became a top LLS company fundraiser as of 2018.
  • “No Kid Hungry”: Keene is a strong advocate and supporter of “No Kid Hungry” since the organization’s inception in 2010. In 2019, she was honored as one of No Kid Hungry’s “Hunger Heroes,” helping provide 6.8 million meals to children in need.
  • At SAIC: Under her leadership, the company has given back through numerous causes such as Building Homes for Heroes, Feeding America, and the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation. Keene also encourages SAIC employees to be engaged through Business Resource Groups, which include STEM, Women’s, Equality (LGBTQ community), and Veteran-focused efforts.

“Nazzic has instilled a culture at SAIC that never hesitates to give back,” said SAIC Board Chair Donna Morea. “Her personal efforts and inspiring leadership make a positive difference within SAIC, with thousands of people in the Washington area, and beyond. To those she’s supported and served, ‘heroine’ is an overdue title.”

Since 2001, the March of Dimes has honored 118 “heroines” and raised more than $3.1 million to support the organization’s efforts to fight premature birth and birth defects. Heroines of Washington Awards Gala guests include directors, CEOs, and other high-level individuals from local corporations and government agencies.
