RESTON, Va. --

Science Applications International Corp. (NYSE: SAIC) has selected 10 veteran recipients for its CyberWarrior™ Scholarship. In collaboration with (ISC)2’s nonprofit charitable trust, the Center for Cyber Safety and Education, the scholarship program provides military veterans with career development opportunities in order to help meet the national need for qualified cybersecurity professionals.

“Congratulations to this year’s recipients of the SAIC CyberWarrior Scholarship. This program strongly supports veterans with the difficult transition to civilian life by helping them to improve their already strong qualifications and assisting them in obtaining industry-recognized certifications. Their passion and dedication to the field of cybersecurity will help our nation meet and defeat cyberattacks that threaten our infrastructure, defense sector, and its supply chain,” said SAIC Chief Information Security Officer and retired U.S. Army Colonel Alicia Lynch.

The 2019 class includes:

  • Peter Alvarado-Ruiz, U.S. Army veteran from San Antonio, Texas
  • Karen Grgurich, U.S. Army veteran from Chicago, Illinois
  • Marylyn Harris, U.S. Army veteran from Houston, Texas

At the end of the training, the veterans will have enhanced opportunities to secure cybersecurity positions that require highly technical cyber skills, such as security analyst, security engineer, security auditor, and security architect. The program focuses on six (ISC)2 certifications: Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP®), Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional (CSSLP®), Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP®), HealthCare Information Security and Privacy Practitioner (HCISPP®), Certified Authorization Professional (CAP®), and Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP®).

“Through our collaboration with SAIC, we are pleased to help veterans quickly move into critical cybersecurity roles as they transition to civilian life,” said Patrick Craven, director of the Center for Cyber Safety and Education.

The 2019 CyberWarrior Scholarship recipients will be formally recognized at a presentation ceremony on October 15, at 11 a.m. ET.
