CHICAGO --

Surgical Directions, a MEDNAX company (NYSE:MD) and leading healthcare consulting firm, is proud to announce Katherine Grichnik, M.D. as Medical Director and Vice President of Clinical Development. Dr. Grichnik, formerly a full professor at Duke University, will be responsible for helping clients transform their operating rooms to provide better patient outcomes, improve surgeon satisfaction and enhance profitability.

“The addition of Dr. Grichnik to our team is an exciting opportunity for our clients to benefit from her cutting edge industry knowledge,” said Jeff Peters, CEO of Surgical Directions. “Together with Dr. David Young and Dr. Thomas Blasco, our physician leadership team is truly one of the best, if not the best, in healthcare consulting today.”

Dr. Grichnik is a cardiothoracic anesthesiologist who practiced at Duke University for 22 years, rising to full professor. While at Duke, she also had multiple administrative roles, including Associate Dean for Continuing Medical Education (CME), assisting with the launch of the health system’s first Patient Safety Center, participating in the Anesthesiology’s Patient Safety and Simulation center and directing the Chancellors' program for leadership and business training with the Duke Fuqua School of Business.

Dr. Grichnik then joined MEDNAX, where she initially directed research, education, quality and safety for anesthesiology and was then promoted to Vice President of Quality and Safety. Dr. Grichnik focused on proving value to patients, partner facilities and healthcare systems through facility level high reliability organization transformation, on-site simulation training, quality and metric driven process improvement programs and targeted educational courses.

She was next recruited to be the Chief Medical Officer at Indian River Medical Center. As a member of the executive management team, she was responsible for the medical staff and its services, the quality and safety department, case management, utilization review, clinical research and supporting the legal department with risk reviews. She focused on physician and departmental quality metrics, value-based purchasing metrics, CMS core measures, readmissions and patient experience with multidisciplinary teams. She also co-led a successful triennial Jt. Commission reaccreditation.

Dr. Grichnik brings unique experience and skills to effectively solve complex perioperative, hospital and healthcare system challenges through the lens of multiple stakeholder perspectives. She will be instrumental in helping Surgical Directions continue to improve its healthcare advisory solutions, enhance delivery excellence and contribute to market growth.
