The holiday season is imminent, and supply chains are still in disarray. Weston Nakamura explores the supply chain constraints with trucker Brad Snyder and freight logistics software company Tranzport CEO David Woldenberg. In a back-and-forth dialogue between two veterans of the logistics industry, Snyder and Woldenberg lay out what is going wrong in U.S. domestic supply chains on a ground level, discussing the “perfect storm” of trucker shortages, rising oil prices, and shipping bottlenecks that are leaving shelves empty and prices soaring. Nakamura and Woldernberg speculate on using container rates to forecast consumer behavior. Woldenberg also offers a glimpse of a possible future of diminished global supply chains where U.S. consumers shift their habits towards domestically produced goods, like wine produced in Southern California, rather than importing it.
