Ozimek is an expert in the function of labor markets and produces research in a broad array of economics fields, including demographics, monetary policy, and immigration. Ozimek’s research at Upwork will help further the company’s mission to create economic opportunities so people have better lives. With more than 1.8 million projects happening via Upwork every year delivering more than $1.7 billion worth of gross services (GSV), the company has the most robust database of freelance work data in the world.

“It’s an honor to join Upwork in this new role as Chief Economist,” said Ozimek. “It is unique to have this much real-time detailed information on any labor market. There are a lot of questions today about the changing nature of work and our understanding of labor markets in general is evolving, and I am excited to use this unparalleled data to shed light on these issues.”

Most recently Ozimek was a senior economist at Moody’s Analytics, where he managed U.S. demographics forecasts and research, including the U.S. population and households forecasts. Prior to Moody’s, Ozimek was Director of Research for Econsult Solutions, an economics consulting firm in Philadelphia. Ozimek’s research has been cited widely in publications including the New York Times, Washington Post and the Wall Street Journal. He has also written for the Forbes Modeled Behavior blog. Ozimek holds a PhD in economics from Temple University.

“Adam brings incredible knowledge of the labor market and we are thrilled to have him joining our team,” said Stephane Kasriel, CEO of Upwork and co-chair of the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council on the New Social Contract. “His efforts will provide invaluable insights to not only help businesses better understand hiring trends, but also help professionals spot emerging trends, and make our data more available to those of us working together to create a more positive future of work.”

“I've long been a fan of Adam's research. I like how he uses data and economic reasoning to explain and clarify the labor market,” said economist John Horton, an Upwork advisor and Assistant Professor at NYU Stern. “I'm looking forward to seeing Adam's skills applied to the incredible richness and scope of Upwork's data. I can't think of anyone better for this exciting role.”
